Canterbury of
New Zealand in
North America Launches New Wearable Technology that Enhances Athletes' Performance and Aids Recovery
World Class Athletes from MLB, PGA and World
Rugby Wear IonX Recovery Gear
EMERYVILLE,
Calif., (
Sept. 6, 2007)
– A new category of athletic apparel that launched today improves
athletes’ performance during workouts and aides in recovery. Canterbury
of New Zealand in North America is emerging onto the
U.S.
market with the introduction of IonX™ Recovery Gear, a BaseLayer of
clothing that will revolutionize the performance apparel industry,
improving every stage of an athlete’s workout. The patented BaseLayer
technology creates a near-perfect environment for the body, helping
athletes stimulate muscle activity, sustain high-intensity workouts and
recover from exercise.
“Helping
athletes improve their on- and off-field performance for more than 100
years, Canterbury of New Zealand, the world renowned rugby, soccer and
sailing company, demonstrates its commitment to innovation for the
entire sports industry with the development of IonX. This establishes a
new apparel category for working out and recovery,” said Hap Klopp,
director of Canterbury of New Zealand in
North America.
“IonX broadens the benefits of our technologically-advanced apparel and
the North American launch broadens our market reach beyond Europe,
Australasia and
Japan.”
IonX
uses Ionized Energy Fabric™, a new type of material that, through a
proprietary, patented process, has a negatively charged electromagnetic
field built in to the structure of the fabric. When worn during a
workout, this fabric improves the delivery of oxygen to the muscles
through the bloodstream, which in turn increases output and accelerates
recovery.
Professional athletes worldwide, including Detroit Tigers pitcher Joel Zumaya, the Premiership UK soccer team,
Portsmouth
and professional golfers Jim Furyk and Michael Campbell, are using
IonX, as well numerous other world-class athletes from champion tennis
players to sailing teams.
“While
competing in the British Open, I wore the Canterbury of New Zealand
BaseLayer to help me physically, including helping my sore back,” said
Jim Furyk, professional golfer on the PGA tour, presently ranked number
two in the world. “I’m convinced the IonX BaseLayer can continue to
help me perform better and recover more quickly from my sore back.”
IonX
recovery gear harnesses the benefits of negative ions through the
natural process of ionization. In nature, high concentrations of
negative ions exist during electrical storms and near waterfalls, where
people experience increased levels of energy and a sense of well-being.
IonX gear has more than 20 times the level of negative ions found
anywhere in nature – and it lasts permanently in the garment. When worn
close to the skin, IonX products provide two key benefits – an improved
level of energy and performance, as well as a faster rate of
recuperation.
IonX stimulates
muscle activity and power output by increasing the flow of oxygen-rich
blood to the muscles, as well as activating chemicals that improve
muscle function and block pain. It allows athletes to sustain longer and harder workouts by trapping electrolytes and transforming them into usable energy. IonX also accelerates recovery
from an injury or soreness by increasing blood flow, preventing the
build-up of metabolic waste that causes muscle fatigue, and increasing
the metabolic properties of tissues, which reduces inflammation and
pain.
In
addition to extending the normal benefits of compression training gear,
the patented IonX finish also works with loose-fitting garments. IonX,
like all fabrics used by Canterbury of New Zealand, offers moisture
management and anti-microbial features plus a unique energy management
capability. Most importantly, when worn after exercise IonX helps
expedite recovery, unlike any other product on the market – pioneering
a whole new category of sports apparel.
IonX Recovery Gear is currently available online (www.canterburynzusa.com) and in select stores and catalogs throughout the
United States.
